Intro to Unreal Engine 5

I had just taken an introductory course on Unreal Engine but I wanted to take a second course to make sure I understand the basics! As I explore the Unreal browser page before entering a project, it seems pretty intuitive to navigate, which is super nice to see! There aren’t too many complicated options to choose from and there are many default setups, depending on what kind of project someone may be trying to create.

Upon reviewing the editor UI again, I love that all panels within the UI can be rearranged according to my own personal preferences. As someone with tons of experience in DAWs, I cannot appreciate that function enough. It helps me figure out a workflow that works best for myself, instead of working through a ‘one-size-fits-all’ type of UI. My favorite function so far is holding the RMB (right mouse button) along with ‘wasd’ to navigate through my project. It’s so easy to use and is a great way to move around the project!

This course is definitely less interactive than the previous one that I had taken, but there are a TON of valuable terminology and basic information in this one! It includes everything from nanite and lumen, to foliage and mesh paint, sheesh! The more I continue to explore each section and function of Unreal, the easier it will get! This reminds me a lot of learning how to use DAWs when I initially started my musical journey many years ago. It’s exciting to be a student and I’m loving the challenge to learn more!
